NSO Outdoor Summer Concert

The NSO, a mixed group with students from all 3 student orchestral ensembles, performed as the first youth orchestra ever to perform on the Town of Clifton Park's Children's Performing Arts Series at Clifton Commons Park in NY! It was a great turnout, a beautiful warm summery weather evening, and a great mix of music! Congrats to all and best of luck to all next year!

Successful NSO concert!

Yesterday all of the ensembles in the NSO youth orchestra put on a very successful spring concert! It was exciting. We had an intern conductor, a student conductor, a guest visitor for a special composer project, and lots of really great, hard music played well!

Jay Shulman's visit to our NSO rehearsal and concert this spring representing his father, composer and cellist Mr. Alan Shulman, made a great impression on our orchestra and family audience. Grateful for New York music history and relationships with current musicians and local composers. What a great opportunity! Thanks Jay!

Jay Shulman is coming to visit the NSO this weekend

Special guest visitor, cellist Jay Shulman will be coming to the NSO rehearsal this weekend! This semester, the NSO has been preparing two musical works by Jay's late father and local composer, Alan Shulman. We are so excited to have the opportunity to have Jay come and talk about his father and his compositions and about his own life as a professional musician. Here is the website of Alan Shulman:
And there is also a Facebook page for Alan: The Music of Alan Shulman.

May Concert with NSO/music by Shulman

Just finished a great week in Wisconsin with the Grace Notes Orchestra and the Mukwonago String Academy. It's always fun to work with all those musicians and students!

Now back to some youth orchestra rehearsals in New York. Very excited to be able to have a guest come to work with the NSO in the coming weeks for our May concert! Alan Shulman (composer/cellist)'s son, Jay (also a cellist) will be coming to visit us and talk about his father's music and career living and working in the New York area. More information to come!

Easter, GNO Clinic

Just had an uplifting Easter service with Grace United Methodist Church Choir and a guest Instrumental Ensemble, in Ravena, NY.

This week, traveling back to Wisconsin, my homestate, to work with Grace Notes Orchestra. I love being able to work with these wonderful musicians. Later in the week will be a string master class at the string academy too before returning out east.

Great News!

I have some really great news, both of which came yesterday.  First, my article "The Dilemma of (and Solutions for) Trying to Be Creative," first published in the Stringing Along Newsletter of the Nebraska Chapter of American String Teachers Association in Spring 2015, was selected and reprinted for publication in the main American String Teacher Journal in August 2015! I received an extra copy in the mail! What an honor to be included in this publication alongside so many other wonderful resources and experienced teachers and pedagogues.

The other great news is that I will be a Viola/Violin String Teaching Artist in the Kids 4 Harmony El Sistema Program in Pittsfield, MA starting this fall. I can't wait to work with my new colleagues and all the great student musicians in the Berkshire and Western Massachusetts area! They are doing some amazing things--check out their Facebook page and the information about them on the website here:  To find out more about El Sistema in the USA, go here:
