This weekend I finished conducting on a concert along with several other conductors in Waynesville, NC for the Smoky Mountain International Conducting Institute and Competition, with the fabulous local symphony musicians and studying under the observation of Master Teacher Dwight Oltman. Always fun to work with and learn from fantastic musicians.
A Congratulations is due to one of my students, Joaquin Moreno, violin, who has received Honorable Mention in the Intermediate Instrumental Division of Levine Music's 2017 Marlin-Engel Solo Competition. Proud of your hard work!
Exciting news! I have been accepted as a Full Participant into the Smoky Mountain International Conducting Institute and Competition in North Carolina later this spring, where I will be learning from master teacher Maestro Dwight Oltman and working with the SMI Chamber Orchestra in rehearsal and concert.
I am pleased to have been asked to conduct the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet as soloists performing along with the Levine School of Music Student Guitar Orchestra, this May 2017! They will be performing one of their commissions Shiki "Seasons of Japan" (2012), dedicated to the 2011 victims of the tsunami and earthquake. Here is a bit of information on the beautiful piece.

The NSO, a mixed group with students from all 3 student orchestral ensembles, performed as the first youth orchestra ever to perform on the Town of Clifton Park's Children's Performing Arts Series at Clifton Commons Park in NY! It was a great turnout, a beautiful warm summery weather evening, and a great mix of music! Congrats to all and best of luck to all next year!

Yesterday all of the ensembles in the NSO youth orchestra put on a very successful spring concert! It was exciting. We had an intern conductor, a student conductor, a guest visitor for a special composer project, and lots of really great, hard music played well!
Jay Shulman's visit to our NSO rehearsal and concert this spring representing his father, composer and cellist Mr. Alan Shulman, made a great impression on our orchestra and family audience. Grateful for New York music history and relationships with current musicians and local composers. What a great opportunity! Thanks Jay!

Special guest visitor, cellist Jay Shulman will be coming to the NSO rehearsal this weekend! This semester, the NSO has been preparing two musical works by Jay's late father and local composer, Alan Shulman. We are so excited to have the opportunity to have Jay come and talk about his father and his compositions and about his own life as a professional musician. Here is the website of Alan Shulman: alanshulman.com
And there is also a Facebook page for Alan: The Music of Alan Shulman.
Just finished a great week in Wisconsin with the Grace Notes Orchestra and the Mukwonago String Academy. It's always fun to work with all those musicians and students!
Now back to some youth orchestra rehearsals in New York. Very excited to be able to have a guest come to work with the NSO in the coming weeks for our May concert! Alan Shulman (composer/cellist)'s son, Jay (also a cellist) will be coming to visit us and talk about his father's music and career living and working in the New York area. More information to come!
